Turpial Coffee

From Adversity to Innovation: The Transformation of a Second Generation Producer at the El Turpial Farm

Emerson Felipe Narváez, a coffee producer from Policarpa, Nariño, is a second generation producer. His father started out growing traditional varieties of the area, such as Colombia and Caturra, on the Finca "La Palma". However, due to social problems in the region, they were displaced and had to abandon their farm and migrate to another municipality.
After this unfortunate incident, Emerson continued his childhood and youth in a normal way, completing his studies, doing military service and even working as a truck driver. After a while, he decided to follow in his father's footsteps in the business of buying and selling coffee in the south of the country. It was then that he had his first contact with a cupping table, which completely changed his perspective on coffee.
Determined to reclaim the farm they had abandoned, Emerson returned to Finca La Palma and started planting coffee varieties such as Geisha and Maragogipe. However, the results were not what he expected, so he decided to expand and buy another farm, Finca El Turpial, located at an altitude of between 2000 and 2100 meters above sea level. With this new farm, Emerson seeks to innovate and change the negative image that Putumayo has had for so many years, bringing new ideas and techniques to coffee production.
