Finca San Antonio: Three Generations, One Shared Root
From the mountains of Buesaco, Nariño, one coffee-growing family is transforming tradition, knowledge, and respect for the land into coffees with a vision for the world.
The story of Finca San Antonio is, above all, a story of family and resilience.
Although the López family’s connection to coffee began generations ago, a defining moment came in 2003, when Nilson Luis López Díaz lost his father and, while still very young, had to take on the responsibility of supporting his family. Coffee became a way to move forward and, over time, the legacy that a new generation continues today.
A farm shaped by its origin
Located in Buesaco, Nariño, at approximately 2,100 meters above sea level, Finca San Antonio has found in the mountain not only the conditions to produce coffee, but also an identity deeply connected to its land.
The farm has its own natural water spring, a resource the family sees as a responsibility. For that reason, their production philosophy increasingly focuses on working in harmony with the soil and the surrounding ecosystem.
Their practices include the predominant use of organic fertilizers, periods of soil rest, beneficial microorganisms and associations such as mycorrhizae, as well as the conservation of naturally growing shade trees across the farm.
Their principle is simple:“If the land gives us everything, we also have to give something back.”
Quality and sustainability as part of the same process
For Finca San Antonio, quality begins long before cupping.
It starts with the selection of ripe cherries, followed by flotation, cleaning, and disinfection, together with careful handling of equipment and each individual lot.
The farm has also developed processes designed to reduce water consumption during post-harvest processing. Depending on the profile they want to achieve, they work with barrels, bioreactors, or bags for controlled fermentations, including anaerobic fermentations that can last up to approximately 48 hours.
For the family, sustainability and quality are not separate goals. They are part of the same production philosophy.

A new generation takes the lead
Today, a new chapter of the story is being led by Luisa López, who literally grew up among coffee trees.
After studying Business Administration and later Agronomy, she decided to apply her knowledge to the family project. This combination of generational experience and new tools has helped gradually transform the farm into a more structured operation, with a stronger focus on production, quality, processing, commercialization, branding, and market access.
Luisa has also begun taking her family’s coffee into international spaces, connecting with roasters, baristas, and buyers from different countries. For her, every new relationship represents not only a commercial opportunity, but also a source of learning.
The future lies with the next generation
Finca San Antonio’s vision goes beyond producing excellent coffee.
Luisa believes that for younger generations to remain connected to rural life, coffee must represent more than tradition. It must also mean innovation, entrepreneurship, quality, branding, and access to new markets.
Today, Finca San Antonio aims to continue growing, develop new processes, deepen its sustainability practices, and connect with more roasters and buyers around the world.
But there is one thing the family is not willing to lose along the way:their roots.
From Buesaco, three generations continue to write the same story.
One family. One mountain. One legacy now seeking to reach new cups around the world.
