Granja La Esperanza
Roots That Gave Life to Excellence
The story of Café Granja La Esperanza begins in 1945, when Blanca Ligia Correa and Juan Antonio Herrera, a Colombian farming couple, were assigned to work and live at Finca Potosí. That same year, Juan Antonio decided to diversify the crops and introduced three new coffee varieties — Yellow Bourbon, Red Bourbon, and Caturra — alongside the traditional Typica, marking the birth of a coffee legacy that endures to this day.
Over time, the family grew to fourteen children, all of whom took part in the farm’s work from a young age, keeping the agricultural tradition alive. Despite market challenges and shifts in the national coffee industry, the farm established itself as a model of productivity and quality. Among the children, Rigoberto and Luis Herrera stood out for their passion and innovative vision in coffee production and processing, leading the expansion to new farms, including La Esperanza, located in the Trujillo region and dedicated to organic production.
In 2007, Rigoberto Herrera had the opportunity to manage a farm in Boquete, Panama, called La Carleida. A year later, his coffee won first place in the “Best of Panama” competition — an achievement that inspired him to bring the first Geisha seeds to Colombia. This milestone marked the beginning of a new era for Café Granja La Esperanza, positioning it as a pioneer in the introduction and adaptation of exotic varietals in the country.
Today, Café Granja La Esperanza is recognized worldwide for its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and exceptional quality. Its team combines tradition and science to produce unique coffees grown in harmony with nature, showcasing sensory profiles that reflect the rich diversity of Colombian soils. Each cup tells a story of dedication, family heritage, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.
